Non le Grand Saut n'est pas mort

Ouf !!!! Enfin des nouvelles du Grand Saut. Après une période d’incertitude suite à l’échec technique de mai 2008, des critiques, voire même des insultes,…… je relève aujourd’hui à nouveau le défi.

Depuis le saut historique de mon ami Joe Kittinger à 31 333 m le 16 août 1960, plus d’une vingtaine de projets à ma connaissance ont été initiés. Tous ont été abandonnés pour diverses raisons.

Après 3 échecs techniques résolus, aujourd’hui, le « Grand Saut » est à nouveau prêt techniquement. Pour sa réalisation, mon nouveau ballon est fabriqué par la société américaine GLOBAL WESTERN, société spécialiste des vols ballons stratosphériques. Cette société me garantit la fabrication et le lancement de mon ballon. Le lancement aura lieu toujours au Canada, mon pays d’accueil.

Le saut aura lieu à la prochaine fenêtre MTO, si j’ai bouclé mon budget. Il faut savoir que chaque opération du Grand Saut coûte 360 000 € avec un seul ballon. Aujourd’hui, il ne me manque plus que 60 000 € pour sa réalisation en mai prochain.

En ce début d’année, je voudrais remercier ma merveilleuse équipe technique et scientifique, mes partenaires et tous ceux qui soutiennent et aident ce grand projet mondial. Nous allons gagner ce merveilleux challenge. Je vous souhaite une bonne et heureuse année 2010, année du Grand Saut.

Wow !!!! Finally news of the Great Jump. After a period of uncertainty following the technical failure in May 2008, which resulted in criticisms and insults, I decided to take up the challenge once again.

Since the historical jump of my friend JK of 31,333 m on August 16th-1960, to my knowledge, more than twenty projects have been initiated and were all abandoned for various reasons.

After solving the technical failures we have experienced, “The Great Jump" is now technically ready to move forward. The new balloon will be manufactured by an American company “GLOBAL WESTERN”, its a company that specializes in the stratospheric flights of balloons. This company guarantees the manufacturing and the launching of my balloon. The launching again will be located in Canada, my host country.

The jump will take place within the next MTO window if I complete my budget. It should be known that each operation of the Great Jump costs approximately 360 000€, this includes only one balloon. As of today, I’m missing around 60 000 € for this jump planned for the end of May 2010.

At the beginning of the year, I would like to thank my marvellous technical and scientific teams, my partners and all those who have supported and helped in this great world project. We will gain this marvellous challenge if we dare to believe. I wish you a Happy New Year for 2010, the year of the Great Jump.

News Grand Saut

Le chemin qui mène à la réussite du Grand Saut n’est pas facile. Il est semé d’embûches imprévisibles. Aujourd’hui des problèmes techniques et un budget incomplet m’interdisent d’envisager une nouvelle tentative avant 2010. Je voudrais remercier toutes les personnes qui soutiennent à quelque niveau que ce soit ce merveilleux challenge.

The route which leads to success of the Big Jump is not easy. It is unpredictable with obstacles. We are still in progress in testing the equipment and the budget is not yet finalized. As a result, we are postponing the jump for the spring of 2010. I would like to thank all of you who have been supporting me in this marvellous challenge.

Seul point critique, le budget n’est pas encore finalisé

Bonne année - Happy new year

En ce début d’année je viens remercier tous mes amis qui soutiennent ce merveilleux challenge, mes sponsors, mes mécènes, mes scientifiques, mon équipe technique, mes amis et tous ceux qui y crois. J’ai reçu la prolongation des autorisations des autorités canadiennes, j’ai déjà un ballon au Canada, certes le budget n’est pas encore bouclé, mais 2009 sera l’année du Grand Saut. Je vous souhaite à tous très chers amis mes vœux les plus chaleureux et les plus sincères pour 2009. C’est notre année. Petite info : A Saskatoon il y a 1,20 de neige et une température de -52°C. At this beginning of the new year I come to thank all my friends who support this marvellous challenge, those being my sponsors, my patrons, my scientists, my technical team, my friends and all those which believe in it. I received the prolongation of the authorizations from the Canadian authorities. I already have a balloon for Canada, and certainly the budget has not yet been reached, but 2009 will be the year of the Great Jump. News de fin d’année du Grand Saut

En cette fin d’année, je voulais vous informer que le Grand Saut suscite toujours autant d’intérêt dans le monde malgré les quelques sceptiques… il y a plus de 5 000 visites mensuelles sur mon site. Comme je l’ai déjà annoncé l’incident qui a libéré mon ballon est résolu, aujourd’hui, j’ai la possibilité d’acheter plusieurs ballons, mais comme vous le savez, le nerf de la guerre, c’est le « fric… » La conjoncture mondiale n’est pas favorable. Mon budget n’est pas encore bouclé. Bonne fêtes de fin d’année, rendez-vous en mai prochain. Michel

News of end of year of the Big Jump In this end of the year, I wanted to inform you that the Big Jump always causes as much interest in the world in spite of the some sceptical people… there is more than 5 000 monthly visits on my site. As I had already announced, the incident which released my balloon is solved. Today I have the possibility of buying several balloons, but as you know it, the name of the game is the "Money…" The world economic situation is not favourable. My budget is not quite reached yet. Good celebrations for the coming New Year, appointments next May. Michel

La nouvelle « Cut of Box » a subi une série de tests très concluants. Ce qui laisse présager un succès en mai prochain.

Le mois dernier Michel était chez son partenaire ALL MER au Havre pour apporter quelques modifications à sa combinaison suite à la tentative de mai 2008. Ces modifications effectuées, sa combinaison est exposée en ce moment à FUTUROTEXTIEL 08 à Kortrijk en Belgique.

ROSTAING à Villieu (01) réalise une deuxième paire de gants chauffants encore plus performants pour la prochaine tentative.

Michel a participé au Festival International du film scientifique dans le cadre de PARICIENCE où il a commenté le film de Monsieur Daniel MÜNTER , « Les Premiers Astronautes » film relatant la préparation et le saut de Joe KITTINGER

The news of the "Cut of Box" underwent a series of very conclusive tests. What lets us predict a success for next May.

Last month Michel was at his partners “ALL MER” with the plans to make some modifications to his combination for the next attempt in May 2009. These modifications when finished will allow his combination which is exposed in this moment with FUTUROTEXTIEL 08 in Kortrijk in Belgium.

ROSTAING with Villieu (01) made a second pair of heating gloves even more powerful for the next attempt.

Michel took part in the International Festival of Scientific films within the framework of PARICIENCE where he commented on the film of Mr Daniel MÜNTER "The First Astronauts" This Film was of the preparation and the jump of Joe KITTINGER

Nouvelle plaquette électronique

La nouvelle plaquette électronique de la « Cut Off Box » est réalisée. Les contacteurs électromécaniques ont été remplacés par des contacteurs électroniques, Un fusible barométrique y est adjoint, ainsi qu’une masse reliée au sol avec un système de déconnexion automatique une fois le ballon ayant quitté le bras de la grue. Cette boîte va être protégée contre le rayonnement électrostatique. Nous entamons la phase tests, avec des tests : température, décharge électrostatique, chocs...Une fois les tests concluants, nous réaliserons une deuxième « Cut Off Box»

The new electronic plate on the "Cut Off Box" has been carried out. The electromechanical contactors were replaced by electronic contactors, a barometric fuse is associated there, as well as a mass connected on the ground with an automatic system of disconnection once the balloon is having left the arm of the crane. This box will be protected from the electrostatic radiation. We start the phase tests, with tests of: temperature, electrostatic discharge, shocks... Once the conclusive tests are finished we will bring out a second "Cut Off Box"

Ou en est-on?

Après étude des films, photos et les nombreux tests que nous avons faits, il s’avère que la chaîne de vol a certainement été coupée avant le lâcher du ballon. Il y a plusieurs systèmes de commande des cutters pyrotechniques avec back up pour libérer la chaîne de vol afin de ramener la nacelle sur Terre. Celui qui a fonctionné et celui déclenché par un timer à 06h00. Nous pensons que son fonctionnement a été provoqué soit par un choc, soit par l’environnement en l’électricité statique provoqué par le froissement de 6 ha ½ de polyéthylène de mon ballon. Rappelez-vous le Zeppelin en 1937. Nous sommes en train de sécuriser les systèmes de commande par le principe de la cage de Faraday et envisageons de mettre des fusibles barométriques sur les commandes des cutters. Nous allons faire de nombreux tests pour valider ce nouveau système de commande. Je vous tiendrai informé.

After a study of films, photographs and the many tests which were made, it was proven that the flight train was certainly cut before the releasing of the balloon. There are several control devices on the pyrotechnical cutters which are a back up to release the flight train in order to bring back the nacelle to Earth. That which self functioned and that which started by a timer at 06h00. We think that its operation was caused either by a shock, or by the environment from the static electricity caused by the crumpling of the 6 ha ½ of polyethylene from my balloon. I point out to you the Zeppelin in 1937. We are making safe all the control devices by the principle of the Faraday screen room and plan to put barometric fuses in the orders of the cutters. We will be making many tests to validate this new control device. I will keep you informed.

Chers amis internautes et passionnés par le « Grand Saut »

De retour du Canada, je tenais à vous remercier toutes et tous de votre soutien et de vos marques d’amitiés. Malheureusement dans ce bas monde l’échec n’est pas toujours synonyme de compassion et d’amitiés. La preuve en est, j’ai même eu droit à des insultes… Ces attaques ne saperont en rien mon moral ma détermination et ma volonté de poursuivre ce merveilleux challenge. Désolé, j’ai passé l’age des insultes gratuites, je n’aie pas besoin de ces petits « crétins d’internautes » pour réaliser Le Grand Saut. J’ai remplacé mon blog par une new et vous tiendrai informé régulièrement. L’incident technique est en court de résolution, envisager une nouvelle tentative prématurément serait irresponsable. De nouveaux partenaires ont déjà rejoint le Grand Saut. J’ai deux ballons de réservés, il ne me reste qu’à finaliser le budget. Pour cela j’ai mis en vente sur mon site des morceaux de ballons que je dédicacerai après le Grand Saut. Bonnes vacances à toutes et à tous.

On returning from Canada, I made a point of thanking you all for your support and for your marks of friendships.
Unfortunately in this lowly world the failure is not always synonymous with compassion and friendship.  The proof in is, I too was entitled to insults…
These attacks will not stop me of anything, my moral, determination and my will to continue this marvellous challenge is still strong.
I am sorry that I have passed the age of these “free” insults for I do not need these small " web surfer morons " to help carry out the Big Jump.  I replaced my blog with a new one and will hold you informed regularly.
The technical hitch is in the course of resolution, to consider a new attempt prematurely would be irresponsible.  New partners have already joined the Great Jump.  I have two balloons on reserve, now it only remains for me to finalize the rest of the budget.  For this I will put on sale, on my site, small pieces of balloons which I will then dedicate after the Great Jump.
